The vineyard extends on the alluvial terraces of the left bank of the Tarn, between Toulouse and Montauban. Soils encountered in the appellation are poor soils conducive to the production of quality wine. These are boulbènes (rich in silt), goatfish (silty clay) and severe (silty gravel). These soils are thin, washed, decalcified, acids, low in organic matter but rich in iron and silica.
At the confluence of oceanic and Mediterranean influences, the climate is characterized by abundant sunshine, low and steady diet of rain gives winters and spring generally rainy and summers hot and dry autumns. Drought is often accentuated by the famous "southerly wind".
